Scottish Nephrops fishery changes certifier

May 30, 2011 10:18

Following an operational decision, the Scottish Fisheries Sustainability Accreditation Group (SFSAG) has announced that it has changed its certification body for the MSC assessment of North Sea Nephrops, reports www.megafishnet.com with reference to MSC.

Mike Park, Chair of SFSAG says:  "We have put a number of actions in place within the nephrops fleet to ensure the sustainability of the catch and are taking the accreditation process forward with MacAlister Elliot and Partners.   Certification of North Sea Nephrops will further enhance the reputation of the Scottish industry, be tangible acknowledgement of the work we have been undertaking, and confirm our commitment to a sustainable industry."
Building on earlier work

Claire Pescod, MSC's UK Fisheries Outreach Manager says: "Changing Certification Bodies is a relatively straightforward process and will enable the SFSAG and their new certifier, MacAlister Elliot and Partners to move forward, building on the work already started by Moody Marine. It is good to see the SFSAG's ongoing commitment to MSC certification and we look forward to continuing to work with them through the fishery assessment."
