Sakhalin port to host wholesale fish exchange and special economic zone
In Sakhalin based port of Nevelsk (one of the largest ports in the Russian Far East and Sakhalin Island) a wholesale fish exchange will be opened where traders will buy and sell products of the Sakhalin based fisheries, according to Sakhalin Governor Alexander Khoroshavin as was quoted by REGNUM.
The Sakhalin Government also plans to create a special economic zone in on the basis of Nevelsk Port. There will be a simplified version of rules and procedures of vessels calling and customs clearance. It is expected that as a result business interests will invest money in buying new fleet and port infrastructure modernization.
At present there are four similar zones in Russian Federation, admits Mr. Khoroshavin. The results of negotiations in Federal Government prove that in the near future Sakhalin region will become the fifth region where wholesale fish exchange will be in operation. But much work in close cooperation with all interested parties is to be done yet.
At present a new program of social and economic development of the Nevelsk region up to the year 2013 has been worked out and submitted to Russian Federal Government for consideration. The value of the program is 24 billion rubles.
