Russia's seafood harvest through November 2010 showing upward trend

Russia's total seafood harvest in the first eleven months of the year 2010 exceeded the last year result by 243,000 metric tons and reached 3,606,200 tonnes, the quota take-up rising by 7.2%, reports http://www.megafishnet.com/ (https://www.fishnet.ru/).

The largest catch volume was observed in the nation's Far East Basin with the result amounting to 2,335,900 tonnes, 108,800 tonnes up on the corresponding result of 2009.

The lowest catch was registered for the Azov and Black Sea Basin where the nation's catch declined by 2900 tonnes to 27,700 tonnes.

The Russian quotas in the foreign zones were covered at 534,000 tonnes, 78,500 tonnes up on the respective result of last year. According to the Russia's National Monitoring Centre for Fisheries and Communication, in the recent several months the Russian fishermen considerably increased mackerel catches in the foreign zones, namely to 50,500 tonnes. In particular, in the waters of the Faroe Islands the Russian harvest reached 13,900 tonnes, 59% up on last year. In the Mauritanian EEZ the mackerel catch amounted to 9400 tonnes, 76% up on last year, while the result for the Moroccan EEZ was 26,000 tonnes and the mackerel harvest in the Senegal waters amounted to 1200 tonnes.

Quota take-up through January-November 2010 in the convention areas and in the international waters of the World Ocean amounted to 159,300 tonnes, 6300 tonnes down on last year. As for mackerel catches, there was a catch rise on 2009. More specifically, the mackerel catch in the NEAFC waters increased by 38% to 45,500 tonnes.
