Russian vets introducing temporary restrictions for seafood importation from Singapore and Ecuador

Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance Rosselkhoznadzor has introduced temporary restrictions for importation of fish, fish products and non-finfish products from Singapore and Ecuador into the Russian Federation, reports http://www.megafishnet.com/ (https://www.fishnet.ru/) with reference to the Service.

More specifically, according to the Service's Directive No. FS-NV-4/1097 dated from 9 February 2010, seafood importation from Singapore and Ecuador onto the territory of Russian Federation is temporarily restricted as of 15 February 2010.

In particular, due to discovery during monitoring tests, of forbidden and harmful ingredients in fish products coming from Singapore and Ecuador the following plants have been forbidden to export their products to Russia.

  • 1. Plant No. PF 01 F 0010 from Singapore (discovery of mercury in butterfish fillet)
  • 2. Plant No. 617 from Ecuador (discovery of mercury in butterfish fillet)

In the event of products shipped before 15th of February 2010 the procedure of products clearance shall be performed in accordance with the existing rules. Regional offices of Rosselkhoznadzor shall take samples from each product lot to conduct laboratory tests for forbidden and harmful components according to the directive of Rosselkhoznadzor No.FS-NV-2/9959 dated 14 September 2009.
