Russian vets completing routine inspection of Norwegian fish processors
On 24 October 2008 Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance Rosselkhoznadzor finished another inspection of Norwegian fish processing plants, reports www.fishnet-russia.com (www.fishnet.ru) with reference to the Norwegian Food Safety Authority.
According to the Norwegian side, the inspection has been a success. More specifically, the Russian vets have checked 21 companies (see the list as below), mostly engaged in pelagic fisheries. The figure also includes 4 salmon processing plants, one processing facility and one red king crab operation.
As per 1 November 2008, the Russian inspectors have checked all the pelagic companies of Norway. According to the Norwegian specialists, the plants' checks were conducted in good cooperation with the Russian inspectors. After analyzing the results of the inspection, Rosselkhoznadzor will send reports about the disclosed discrepancies.
The Norwegian Authority says that the remaining salmon plants will be checked in the beginning of the first quarter of 1009.
In late October 2008 the market has been hit by the speculations about the deadline of 1 November 2008 for submitting the list of contracts between the Norwegian exporters and the Russian importers. However, the Russian vets say that the deadline to apply for permits is not fixed and the applications may be filed at any time. Export permits are valid for one calendar year.
