Russian vets arresting Norwegian fish consignment

September 7, 2007 15:31

Kaliningrad department of Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance Rosselkhoznadzor has arrested Rand-2 motor ship with 37 tonnes of frozen Atlantic salmon and trout which has arrived in Kaliningrad without accompanying documents, a spokesman of the service told https://www.fishnet.ru/.

According to the consignee, the arrested fish is of Russian origin. However, the expert's report, an extract from the ship log, quality certificate and the sale contract confirm that the fish has been harvested neither in Russia's territorial waters nor in the EEZ and its country of origin is Norway which has been confirmed by the documents presented later.

The case evidently proves the fact that unscrupulous traders have been searching for new ways of illegal importation of products from Norwegian salmon farms which are not approved by Rosselkhoznadzor for export to the Russian Federation, concluded the spokesman.
