Russia boosting import of Norwegian salmon

According to the Norwegian Seafood Export Council the export value of Norwegian salmon in January - September 2010 increased considerably, reports www.megafishnet.com with reference to NSEC.

More specifically, export value grew to NOK21.9 billion (+NOK5.1 billion) or by 30% in comparison with the same period 2009.

In the 3d quarter 2010 the salmon sales hit records in sales volumes and prices. The global demand for salmon has been stable while the competition from other world salmon suppliers has come down. Total export of Norwegian salmon in September 2010 has also been record high and amounted to NOK2.4 billion (+NOK737 million or 34%).

The value of Norwegian salmon exports to Russia in the first nine months of this year totaled NOK2 billion. This is an increase of NOK 748 million compared to the same period last year. This makes Russia the third biggest export market for Norwegian Salmon after France and Poland.

Exports of Norwegian fjord trout in the third quarter decreased by 24% in value to NOK 1.1 billion compared to the same period last year. The biggest export market for Norwegian trout is Russia, which witnessed decline in exports by 29% to NOK 572 million. Fresh Norwegian trout is the most popular in Russia while the frozen product takes first position in the Chinese market.
