Rosselkhoznadzor vets intercept contaminated shipments from Lithuania and Chile
The Russian veterinary and phytosanitary service Rosselkhoznadzor has introduced temporary restriction for seafood shipments from a number of plants from Lithuania and Chile as of 15 May 2007.
According to the service's press agency, monitoring checks of seafood coming to Russia have disclosed presence of salmonella in a 19-tonne surimi consignment exported from Lithuania and staphylococcus in a 5-tonne lot coming from Chile.
Due to the above finding, Rosselkhoznadzor has introduced temporary restrict tion for seafood shipments from the Lithuanian plant LT 68-08 EB and the Chilean plant 08123.
The Russian vets from Rosselkhoznadzor have asked veterinary services of Lithuania and Chile to do a similar investigation at the above plants in order to avoid bacterial contamination of the products meant for export to Russia for the future.
