Roe comes forward as only positive indicator for Magadan fish companies
In January-September 2008 Magadan-based fishing and processing companies sold own-made products and rendered services totally worth RUB1326.3 million. Contrary to the general positive trends in the Russian fishery industry, the production index in Magadan's seafood sector however accounted for 88.2% of the corresponding result of last year, reports www.fishnet-russia.com (www.fishnet.ru) with reference to Severdv.
More specifically, in the first nine months of the year the province's fishermen harvested 57,500 tonnes of fish, 18% down on last year. The onboard production amounted to 28,200 tonnes of frozen fish, 5000 tonnes of herring (all kinds of processing), 3700 tonnes of other than finfish aquatic products, and 831 tonnes of fish roe. As compared to the same period last year, seafood output of Magadan-based producers went down practically for all the species, except for fish roe, which production rose by 15%.
The total output of onboard and onshore made seafood products for human consumption amounted to 45,300 metric tons, 20% down on January-September 2007.
