Retail chains getting rid of strongly-glazed fish

October 27, 2010 11:15
In connection with recent requirements of Russia's Federal Service for Surveillance in the Sphere of Protection of Consumers' Rights and Human Welfare (Rospotrebnadzor) on glazing content some Russian wholesalers have been delisting from their price-lists such products as tilapia and pangasius fillets, reports http://www.megafishnet.com/ (https://www.fishnet.ru/).

Many traders say that despite Rospotrebnadzor's permission to sell product inventories large retail chains have been rejecting such products in favour of fillet purchases compliant with new sanitary norms. Nevertheless, tilapia and pangasius fillets with more than 20% glaze have been still on offer in smaller retail chains and shops.

Background

On the third week of October 2010 Russia's Federal Service for Surveillance in the Sphere of Protection of Consumers' Rights and Human Welfare (Rospotrebnadzor) explained the rules of introducing new sanitary norms into force. More specifically, SanPinN 2.3.2.2603-10 "Addendum No.17 to SanPiN 2.3.2.1078-01" came into force on 1 October 2010 and touched products made after the given day. For fish products made before 1 October 2010 requirements of previously valid sanitary standards should be applied, and such products could be sold without any limitations until the end of their storage life.
