Results 2005-2006 for import of fresh, chilled and freshfrozen fish and fish fillets to Russia disclose further rise of value figures

Proceeding from the figures of Russia's Federal Customs Service, the Investment and Analytical Group of major Moscow-based importer and distributor OOO Norge-Fish (ltd) has revealed that as compared to 2005 the nation's imports of food products and agricultural raw materials in the year 2006 increased by 25% or 4.1 billion USD.

Meanwhile, the volume of imports of fresh, chilled and freshfrozen fish and fillets in 2006 dropped by 13% (100,000 tonnes) as compared to 2005. However, according to the leader of the analytical group Timur Mitupov, due to rising production costs, customs duties and overheads of imported products the value of the imported seafood of the above categories increased by 22% (178 million USD) in 2006 as compared to 2005. The average value per tonne of the imported seafood rose by 40% from 1040 USD to 1450 USD.

The share of the selected groups of seafood in the total value of food products and agricultural raw materials dropped by 0.13% from 5.02% in 2005 to 4.89% in 2006.

The figures compiled by Norge-Fish researchers however do not include such important items as dried, smoked and salted fish as well as shellfish and mollusks, etc. With the latter categories in mind, the total Russian imports exceeded one billion USD back in 2005.
