Registration Opens for 2nd Annual Icelandic Seafood Fest 8K Run
Icelandic USA, Inc is excited to announce event details for the 2nd Annual Icelandic Seafood Fest 8K Run, a Colonial Road Runners Grand Prix Event. The evening of activities will be hosted on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Oakland Industrial Park in Newport News, Va. The event features a 1 Mile Fun Run, an 8K Race, plus a delicious seafood dinner sponsored by Bonefish Grill, Michelob Ultra and Redhook beer. Registration for the race opened on 18, October 2010, reports www.megafishnet.com with reference to Icelandic USA.
Icelandic hopes to surpass both the record-breaking race turnout and immense fundraising of the 2010 inaugural event which boasted the largest race attendance in Colonial Road Runners History. The 935 entrants and over 100 corporate and local sponsors raised an astounding $75,000 for three important causes; the American Heart Association, ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) Association, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, and Shelby M. Blevins Educational Trust. The 2011 Icelandic Seafood Fest 8K Run will also benefit these associations. Local sponsors Bonefish Grill, M. Price Distributing, 105.3 Kiss fm, Williamsburg Yorktown Daily at wydaily.com, 107.9 Bach fm and 92.3 fm The Tide helped publicize the inaugural race.
Ævar Agnarsson, CEO of Icelandic® USA, explains the significance of this event. "The Icelandic Seafood Fest 8K Run is very important to us at Icelandic, and serves multiple purposes. First, we wanted to create a health initiative for our community of Hampton Roads that would in turn, give back to families in the area. We also wanted to commemorate two very dear members of our Icelandic family, Susan Smith Blevins and Dr. Carl D. Decker, who recently passed away by raising funds for three great causes in their memory.
Early registration for the Icelandic Seafood Fest 8K Run will open on Friday, October 15 for USD30. The registration fee increases to $35 for entry after May 6, 2011. The field will be limited to the first 1,250 registrants and it is expected to sell out early. Registration closes Friday, May 27, 2011.
