Provisional results of pollock roe production in the Sea of Okhotsk
In January-March 2008 the APO roe production totaled ca.20,000 tonnes, but the fishing season was not yet closed. According to the scientists, April normally brings the best conditions in terms of volume and quality of the APO roe when the rate of the roe yield grows to 5.5-7%. In 2005-2006 the record high volume of the APO roe in the fishery's history was put up for sale at auction in Busan, correspondingly 25,000 and 30,000 tonnes, fishery sources told www.fishnet-russia.com (www.fishnet.ru).
The market was oversaturated, the supply considerably exceeded the demand and the prices simply crashed down. Listening to the call of the Alaska pollock Fishermen's Association most of the fishing companies agreed to limit production of frozen APO roe and reduce their supplies in 2007. As a result, during the last year season the fishermen produced ca.19,500 tonnes of frozen APO roe.
