Production going well at Vopnafjoerdur

Herring production got underway at Vopnafjoerdur on 31 May 2010 when Lundey NS arrived with 300 tonnes of herring on board. Fishing on Atlanto-Scandian herring has just started and this was the first herring of the season to be landed in Vopnafjoerdur, reports www.megafishnet.com with reference to HB Grandi.

‘There is some feed in the fish,' said Magnus Robertsson, factory manager at the Vopnafjoerdur plant. He commented that there is plenty to do now that the new feeding-in system has been taken into use for the first time for herring and mackerel, and production lines have been altered to make room for the new automatic filleting machines.

‘We started production soon after Lundey arrived and it has gone well with no problems,' Magnús Róbertsson said, adding that the herring is being processed into butterfly fillets.

Ingunn AK is now fishing on herring deep north-east of Vopnafjördur, but the decision was taken to keep Faxi RE back from joining the fishery straight away as the annual Seamen's Day celebration will be held this coming Sunday.
