Overview of seafood exports from Russia's Far East in October 2010
Official import reports for key seafood articles from the Russian Far East grounds to main directions, except for European, have highlighted comparably high activity of shipments of frozen salmon to Japan versus low activity of its shipments to China. Shipments of frozen snow crab to the USA and frozen king crab to Japan have been developing fairly quickly, however while in case with the USA it has been in keeping with the general year trend, in case with Japan it has happened against the background of a strong decrease of annual shipments, according to the overview prepared by analysts of http://www.megafishnet.com/ based on Japanese, Russian and American sources.
Along with the above developments, a strong level of frozen pollock roe shipments, especially directly to the Japanese market has been seen on the background of approximate stabilization of prices at the last year level (in USD). There has also been a dramatic slowdown of Russian ocean perch and Atka mackerel shipments to Japan, but probably it has been due to larger activity of shipments in the previous months. Serious interest has also been attracted to active shipments of frozen halibut both to Japan and China against the background of high prices.
