Overview of freshfrozen fish market of Saint Petersburg and some other regions as per mid-May 2008

Herring
As per mid-May 2008, traders were offering herring of all sizes. More specifically, herring 125-200 was sold from RUB 21 per kilo, while the size 200-300, 250+ was offered from 23.50 to 24.00 per kilo. Norwegian herring 300+ was sold from RUB26.50 per kilo, 330+ from RUB32.00, 350+ from 36.00 and the size 400+ was marketed from RUB50.00 per kilo.
Norwegian herring fillets were sold from RUB35.50 per kilo of the size 8/12 and from RUB40.00 per kilo of the size 6/10.
Baltic herring, Baltic sprat
As per mid-May 2008, the Baltic sprat was offered from RUB19.50 per kilo ex-coldstore, while the Finnish herring 12-15 was marketed from RUB21.00 and the same product of the size 15-17 was available from RUB23.00.
Mackerel
As per mid-May 2008, the market supply of mackerel was short and the prices rose to RUB79.00 per kilo of the size 400-600 and up to RUB65.00 per kilo of the size 300-500.
Pangasius
As per mid-May 2008, pink fillets 220+ of pangasius catfish were offered from RUB54.00 per kilo ex-coldstore.
Blue whiting
The situation on the blue whiting market most likely got stabilized and the product was available from RUB19.50 per kilo.
Hake
Due to a certain shortage of the market supply, prices for hake went up approximately by RUB10.00 per kilo. In the middle of May 2008 there were offers from RUB72.00 to RUB77.00 per kilo depending on the size, packaging and country of origin.
The Canadian hake 300-500 IQF was offered from RUB72.00 per kilo, while Argentinean hake HGT 500-800 was offered from RUB82.00 per kilo.
Squid
As per mid-May 2008, squid from the Russian Far East was marketed from RUB62.00 to 65.00 per kilo, while Peruvian squid fillets were offered at RUB82.00 per kilo.
Capelin
The traders were offering practically all capelin sizes. In particular, the count 35/45 was marketed from RUB33.50 per kilo and the count 40/50 was on offer at RUB31.00 per kilo.
