Overview of freshfrozen fish market of Saint Petersburg and other regions as per mid-October 2007
During the period under review there have been many interesting developments on the market of St. Petersburg, Russia's main entry port for seafood, trading sources told http://www.fishnet-russia.com/ (https://www.fishnet.ru/).
Below follow more details on particular species with average prices given as ex-coldstore VAT inclusive for quantities of between 1-10 metric tons unless specified otherwise.
Freshfrozen herring
As per mid October 2007 Saint-Petersburg traders offered Norwegian herring from the new catch from RUB27.00 per kilo of the size 300+.
Prices for the size 350+ were decreasing from RUB38.00 per kilo in early October to RUB34.00 per kilo in the middle of the month. In the shortterm outlook the traders kept forecasting a price decrease until the 10th of November 2007.
The size 400+ was practically unavailable on the market.
Russian herring 220-240+ poorly graded product classified as large and fat was offered from RUB13.50 in mid-September appreciating to RUB18.50 per kilo in the middle of October in Saint Petersburg.
Russian herring fillets were offered from RUB38.00 per kilo of the size 6/10 in Saint Petersburg.
Mackerel
Due to poor catches and short market supply prices for mackerel were not yet formed in mid-October, while Norwegian mackerel was not yet on offer on the market.
Mackerel prices ranged from RUB63.00 to RUB67.00 per kilo of the size 400-600.
Scottish mackerel was not available on the market as per 16 October 2007.
Baltic herring, Baltic sprat
Prices for Estonian and Latvian sprat settled at RUB16.00-17.00 per kilo, while Finnish herring was sold from RUB17.50 per kilo of the size 12-15 cm and from RUB21.00 per kilo of the size 15-17 cm.
Blue whiting
In October the blue whiting fishery was poor with the fish offered from RUB23.00 to RUB24.00 per kilo.
Capelin
Norwegian capelin 40/50 was offered from RUB25.00 to RUB26.00 per kilo in Saint Petersburg depending on quality.
Hake
Due to poor hake fishery in Argentina the market displayed a certain shortage of hake supply and the HGT product appreciated from RUB55.00 to RUB60.00 per kilo of the size 300-500. In the shortterm outlook the traders forecasted a slight rise of prices.
Pink salmon
Pink salmon from the new catch was offered from RUB53.00-54.00 per kilo both in Saint Petersburg and in Moscow.
