Norwegian Seafood Exports up by 46 % in September
Exports of Norwegian seafood in September totalled NOK 5.7 billion. This an increase of NOK 1.8 billion or 46% compared to September 2009 and is the highest export value ever registered for a single month, reports http://www.megafishnet.com/ with reference to NSEC.
For the year to date, the total value of exports of Norwegian seafood stands at NOK 37.3 billion. This is NOK 6.5 billion or 21% up on the same period last year, according to the latest figures from the Norwegian Seafood Export Council.
"September saw growth in every segment of Norwegian seafood exports," says director of market information Egil Ove Sundheim from the Norwegian Seafood Export Council. "Two circumstances in particular have contributed to this strong growth in exports of NOK 1.8 billion: large catches of mackerel coinciding with increased demand for mackerel in Japan, and continuing high demand for Norwegian Salmon in key markets such as France, Russia and the USA."
Norwegian Salmon sets export record
In September, the value of exports of Norwegian Salmon totalled NOK 2.9 billion, making it the best month on record for exports of Norwegian Salmon in terms of value. The value of exports of Norwegian Salmon so far this year totals NOK 21.9 billion, which is an impressive increase of no less than NOK 5.1 billion. The total volume of exports stands at 651,000 tonnes, up by 77,000 tonnes.
Exports of Norwegian Fjord Trout in September showed a slight drop of NOK 2 million to a total of NOK 149 million. This year to date, the value of exports of Norwegian Fjord Trout totals NOK 1.1 billion, down by NOK 348 million.
France and Poland are the biggest importers of Norwegian Salmon, while Russia and China are the biggest importers of norwegian Fjord Trout.
Record exports for mackerel
September saw exports of mackerel increase by NOK 935 million to a value of NOK 1.3 billion. This year to date, the value of exports of mackerel totals NOK 1.9 billion, up by a massive 77%. The volume of exports of mackerel in September totalled 132,000 tonnes, an increase of 306% compared to September last year. This year to date, the volume of exports of mackerel totals 187 000 tonnes. Japan, China and Nigeria are the biggest importers of Norwegian mackerel.
Herring exports higher in September
Exports of herring increased in value by NOK 12 million or 10% in September to a total value of NOK 140 million. For the year to date, exports are down in value by NOK 172 million to a total of NOK 2.2 billion.
Growth in clipfish exports
In September, the value of exports of Norwegian Cod clipfish was up by 20% to NOK 228 million, while exports of saithe clipfish increased in value by 4% to NOK 114 million. This year to date, exports of Norwegian Cod clipfish total NOK 1.2 billion, an increase of almost 14%, and exports of Norwegian Saithe clipfish total NOK 886 million, up by 6% compared to the same period last year.
