Norwegian export of herring fillets to Russia displaying big rise
In the first quarter of 2008 the Norwegian export of herring fillets to Russian and Eastern European countries has increased, according to Globefish.
Although the sales of round herring to Russia have decreased by 19% in volume (56 690 tonnes in 2008 and 69 730 tonnes during the same period of 2007) and by 31% in value this year, the Russian market stays the top market in value terms. Thus, the export value during January - March period amounted to NOK208 million (in comparison with NOK 301 660 000 in 2007).
Meanwhile, exports of round herring to Ukraine have increased by 31% to 39 080 tonnes (in 2007 the export volume during the same period amounted to 29 910 tonnes).

Average unit value sold to the Russian market has amounted to NOK3.65/kg. Average price on the Ukrainian market has come down to NOK4.46 per kilo (the decrease is 6 - 7% in comparison with the first quarter of 2007).
Fillet
The export sales of herring fillets to the Russian and other Eastern European markets have come up in the first quarter of 2008. Sales from Norway to the Russian Federation, the Ukraine and Belarus have all increased compared to the first quarter of 2007.
Meanwhile, Russia has stayed the leading market following the increase by 46% to 18 500 tonnes of herring fillets (in comparison with 12 700 tonnes during the same period of 2007).
Ukrainian market has also increased reaching volume 5 820 tonnes in January - March 2008 (the increase is 125%) and value NOK 35 460 000.
