New seiner launched in Vladivostok
On 14 April 2009 a new fishing vessel was launched in the port of Vladivostok, reports www.fishnet-russia.com (www.fishnet.ru) with reference to Vostok-Media.
The new vessel is nearly 24 meters long and has a tonnage of 143 tonnes. Called Gakkel after one of the province's explorers the ship is equipped with seiner gear and can harvest practically a wide range of aquatic species from finfish to crabs.
According to Production Director of OAO HC Dalzavod Yard Mr. Sergey Sidorkin, the seiner was built to the order of Vladivostok-based fishing company Zarubinskaya Baza Flota. The vessel was built within 1.5 years also including time for design making by Dalzavod's naval architects. Gakkel has become the lead ship of a series with another vessel already being built now. The series is planned to consist of three sister seiners.
Dalzavod thinks that Gakkel will indicate a dawn of the company's activity in the new direction of shipbuilding because it has been engaged mostly in shiprepair operations. Now the shipyard is ready to build vessels not only for Primorye (capital Vladivostok), but for other fishing regions of Russia as well. Production and human capacities of Dalzavod make it possible to construct ships in compliance with current requirements, says Sidorkin.
