Mixed Russian-Norwegian Fisheries Commission setting cod and haddock quotas for 2007
The 35th Meeting of Mixed Russian-Norwegian Fisheries Commission taking place in Tromsoe, Norway on 30 October – 3 November 2006 has set cod TAC for 2007 at 429,000 tonnes.
The figure includes 389,000 tonnes of offshore quota for the both countries and 20,000 tonnes of inshore cod for each party.

1. Additionally up to 14 000 tonnes or 7 000 tonnes for each country may be harvested for research and management purposes.
2. Additionally up to 1 000 tonnes of cod may be harvested for research and management purposes by long line
3. Additionally non-commercial fishery for personal consumption will be allowed.
4. Additionally up to 5600 tonnes or 2800 tonnes for each country may be harvested for research and management purposes
The TAC means a reduction of roughly 10% percent for the both main players in the fishery.
The cod quota for the Russians has come down by about 9.8% and according to senior officials in Murmansk the fishermen are reasonably happy with the outcome as greater cuts were initially proposed.
