St-Petersburg’s wholesale seafood market facing lack of white fish supply

March 12, 2021 16:12

As per early March the wholesale market of St-Petersburg (Russia’s main entry port for imported seafood) was facing delays with arrival of some fish products such as blue whiting and pangasius fillets, reports Megafishnet.com.

Besides, it looked like several other white fish species were also in short supply as Atlantic cod and saithe were mostly traded for export. Hake shipments from Argentina and Uruguay could potentially dwindle as well because of the fleet’s switch to squid fishery.

Haddock supply looked better however creating potential for price softening.

Meanwhile Atlantic herring prices have stabilized while the Russia-caught Atlantic mackerel WR went up in demand and price.

Price range ex-SPb cold storage or CNF SPb port as of 3 March 2021
