Saint-Petersburg market behind usual end-of-year acceleration
As per the second week of December 2020 the wholesale trade in frozen seafood was still behind the usual end-of-year acceleration, though the demand for imported species was generally active in Russia’s main entry port for imported products, reports Megafishnet.com.
According to sources in the trade, large whole herring originating from Faroe Islands as well as the Russian-caught headed mackerel were among the favorites in terms of demand.
Meanwhile demand for frozen Atlantic salmon from Chile has been stable but not rising as would be usual for the season. As regards the Chilean coho, the inventories have been depleted with next shipments scheduled to arrive in late December at the earliest.
More details of the developments on the market follow in the table below.

The fishing season is brisk. It progresses in a different way as compared to the previous seasons. The Faroese fishermen say that herring is scarce and difficult to catch. Due to low supply the traders tend to raise prices. |
