Russian seafood imports in 2020 displaying mixed results
The Russian seafood imports in 2020 slightly declined year-on-year but at the same time the volumes of many important products simply surged while mostly less important species contributed to the reduction in the total, reports Megafishnet.com.
According to the figures derived from the 2020 customs declarations, Russia’s imports under the HSC subgroups 0301-0308 amounted to USD1,493.9mln, 0.75% down YOY. In volume terms, purchases totalled 453,068MT (net weight), 1.09% down YOY.

As compared to 2019, in 2020 the list of Russian seafood importers had more than 90 newcomers, for instance:
- OOO SPUTNIK, more than 8,860MT, main products: salmon, trout
- OOO VITYAZ-AVTO, 2,960MT, main products: pink salmon
- OOO IMENI KIROVA FISHING CO-OP, 1,500MT of saury from China
A number of companies showed a noticeable rise of purchases:
- OOO MOREODOR +30%, main products: hake, salmon, shrimp, trout, pangasius, tilapia
- OOO LUCKYFISH +50%, main products: trout, butterfish, shrimp, coho salmon, hake, tuna
- OOO POLAR SEAFOOD RUSSIA +20% by volume, main products: shrimp, flounder, hake
Some companies considerably decreased their purchases and lost their market shares:
- OOO IZOLA, -95% to 1,738 tonnes, main products: herring, seabass, mackerel
- AO YUZHMORRYBFLOT, more than 68% down by volume, main products: saury, tuna
- OOO ECOPROMEX, -29.5% to 8,262 tonnes, main products: herring, mackerel, squid.
