Overview of seafood exports from Russian Far East in December 2011
In December 2011 main trends in development of seafood shipments from the Russian Far East to main markets remained unchanged, thus the year 2011 finished generally successfully for the Russian fishermen (a fly in the ointment was a decline of bottomfish shipments) reports http://www.megafishnet.com/.
Prices for halibut shipments both to Japan and to China seriously increased.
The situation with shipments of frozen crab was much better than in 2010, especially in terms of prices, which was to a great extent encouraged by continuous decline of shipments of live crab to Japan.
Main results of frozen pollock roe shipments to Japan and South Korea and especially frozen salmon roe supplies to Japan were very good, just like the situation with shipments of salmon products from the Russian Far East. More specifically, the Japanese import of frozen sockeye displayed a very serious rise, and the Chinese import of frozen pink salmon and chum salmon was record high and would hardly be outdone in the coming years.
