Added-value products contributing to surge in Russian seafood export value
For 4 months of 2022, the export of Russian fish products, according to preliminary data from Rosstat, increased in monetary terms by 30.8% and reached $ 1.9 billion. The volume of fish and seafood supplies increased by 19.7% to 739.4 thousand tons. The increase in financial returns from exports was also due to an increase in the supply of processed products (with high added value).
The export of fillets of fish and other fish meat (including minced meat) increased by 72.2% or up to 84.4 thousand tons.
In addition, the supply of frozen fish, with the exception of fish fillets, increased by 17% — up to 616.4 thousand tons, fresh fish by 27.8% — up to 2.3 thousand tons; dried fish by 52.6% — up to 2.9 thousand tons;
Exports of crustaceans, in shell or without shell, live, fresh decreased by 11.5% to 17.7 thousand tons; finished or canned fish by 16% to 7.9 thousand tons.
The volume of imports of fish and seafood, according to preliminary data from Rosstat for January-April 2022, amounted to 158.5 thousand tons, which is 28% lower than the same period in 2021. In monetary terms, imports decreased by 22.6% to $583.8 million.
The decrease in imports was due to frozen fish, with the exception of fish fillets, by 22% — to 74.6 thousand tons; fresh or chilled fish, with the exception of fish fillets, - 61.5% — to 4.7 thousand tons; finished or canned fish by 5.8% — to 24.4 thousand tons.
By the beginning of June, Russian fishermen had caught about 2 million tons of fish, ahead of last year's result, production in commercial aquaculture and in the processing sector also shows positive dynamics.
