June 5, 2008 15:56
In 2008 Kamchatka Government has for the first time taken over from Moscow the region's salmon quota allocation to the fishermen and online regulation of the fishery, according to Vostok-Media.

In this connection the regional Ministry of Fisheries points out that the previous procedure of federal approval of quotas and the dates of the start of the season has been abolished to help reduce fishing permit issue to a matter of several days with no delays for the fishery.

The salmon fishermen of Kamchatka's Ust-Kamchatsky District are the first to profit from the new procedure. In this administrative division there are eight registered users of salmon fishing sites now leased for a term of 20 years. The users are starting the season on 5 June current and they are going to harvest about 10 thousand tonnes of salmon.
