Russian satellite communication system to provide broadband Internet access for fishermen
According to CFMC, during the tests, it is planned to evaluate the usability and effectiveness of the space communication system in the field conditions.
"In case of successful tests, the system will provide Russian fishing vessels engaged in fishing in our exclusive economic zone with high-speed Internet for communication with the shore. It is especially important, in addition to import substitution issues, that the estimated cost of communication services for fishermen will be cheaper than that of the foreign competition, " said acting CFMC head Alexander Mikhailov,
Testing of the satellite communication system is planned to begin in September 2021 in three fishing areas: in the Russian Far East, in the North and in the Sea of Azov-Black Sea. The test period is one month.
Currently, the center is making up the list of fishing companies that wish to take part in testing the hardware and software on their ships. It is also planned to involve research and rescue vessels subordinate to Russia’s Federal Agency for Fishery.
Gazprom Space Systems, for its part, will prepare a program for testing satellite communication channels, as well as provide communication channels and equipment free of charge, ensure its delivery to ships and configuration.
