Russian fisheries enjoying high priority on agenda of new Minister of Agriculture
With recently appointed Minister Nikolay Federov fisheries industry, which has always been a step daughter for the Russian Ministry of Agriculture, has got the chance to become one of priority sectors for development, reports http://www.megafishnet.com/ with reference to the Minister's speech at the APEC meeting on food safety issues in Kazan.
More specifically, when speaking at the meeting Russia's Minister of Agriculture Nikolay Federov has called fisheries one of the most important aspects both for global food safety and for human health.
Mr. Federov has also announced it necessary to focus on sustainable management of marine ecosystems and trade in biological resources of the world ocean. There is a need of strengthening cooperation in counteraction against illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, towards ecologically, socially and economically sustainable management of fisheries and marine ecosystems as well as towards higher transparency in fishery regulation system, said the Minister at the meeting.
Russia's Federal Fisheries Agency has recently been transferred under the umprella of Ministry of Agriculture and it is hoped that with such powerful backing the fishery industry will get a fresh boost for development.
