Russia to continue fishing off Marocco for another four years
Russia’s Deputy Minister of agriculture – head of the Federal Agency for Fisheries Ilya Shestakov and deputy head Vasily Sokolov have been appointed representatives of the Russian Federation in the Russian-Moroccan Mixed Fisheries Commission. The order was signed on November 19, 2020 following the recent signature of fishing agreement between Russia and Morocco, reports Megafishnet.com.
The intergovernmental agreement between the countries on cooperation in the field of marine fisheries was signed on October 14, 2020 and is designed to last for 4 years. It provides for cooperation in the field of conservation and use of living marine resources of the exclusive economic zone of Morocco and defines the working conditions of the Russian fishing fleet in these waters.
Annual quota
The annual quota for Russian vessels amounts to 140 thousand tons. This volume may be revised downwards based on scientific data from Morocco. The composition of catches in the first year of the agreement: sardine, sardinella at 23%; mackerel, horse mackerel, anchovy at 75%; by-catch at 2%.
Cooperation is also envisaged in fisheries research, in expeditions, the development of fishing and processing techniques and technologies, and the development of aquaculture. The States intend to encourage cooperation between companies in the areas of shipbuilding and ship repair, production of fishing gear, training, exchange of experience, and fish trade.
