Russia’s Arctic Zone plan to include fisheries and aquaculture

The Government has approved a unified action plan for the implementation of the Fundamentals of the State Policy of the Russian Federation in the Arctic and the Strategy for the Development of the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation, reports Megafishnet.com.

According to the Government, the roadmap has included the development of a digital service for aquaculture, measures against illegal fishery and sale of marine bioresources, as well as the preparation of measures to stimulate fish processing.

In particular, the Ministry of the Russian Far East, the Ministry of Finance, the Federal Agency for Fisheries, the Joint-stock company "Fund for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic", the State Corporation "Rosatom" are to prepare proposals for the creation of a digital service for the provision of fish-breeding sites in the Arctic zone, the respective report to be submitted to the Cabinet within the third quarter 2021.

Such an Internet service is already used to form aquaculture sites in the Russian Far East, and now it is planned to extend the service to the Arctic seas.

The above departments should also develop measures of state support for the creation and (or) modernization of fish processing complexes and fish farms in the Arctic zone. A report on this topic should be submitted to the Government in the fourth quarter 2021.

A separate focus is made on the fight against IUU. Accordingly, the Federal Security Service and the Ministry of Agriculture should develop an action plan to prevent illegal fishery and sale of marine bioresources in the Arctic zone, the plan to be submitted within the third quarter 2021.
