Results of Russian fisheries in January-February 2019

As per 6 March 2019 Russia’s total catches amounted to 843,300 metric tons, 4.8% down on the similar result of last year due to unfavourable weather conditions in the beginning of the season, reports www.megafishnet.com (welcome to our new marketplace www.impexglobal.ru).

In the Russian Far East Fishery Basin the harvest totaled 639,000 metric tons, 1% down on last year. Catches of Alaska pollock amounted to 507,500 tonnes in keeping with the last year result. Cod catches amounted to 28,000 tonnes, 7,600 tonnes more than in 2018. Herring catches decreased by 5,700 tonnes to 54,000 tonnes.

In the country’s North Fishery Basin the Russian fleets harvested 77,000 tonnes, 39% down on the corresponding result of 2018. Cod catches totaled 58,300 tonnes, 5,300 tonnes down on 2018, haddock catches declined by 9,700 tonnes to 10,900 tonnes.

In the West Fishery Basin the fishermen harvested 16,000 tonnes, 33.5% down on last year. Sprat catches decreased by 5,800 tonnes to 10,400 tonnes. Baltic herring catches also declined by 1,750 tonnes to 5,000 tonnes.

In the Azov-Black Sea Fishery Basin the harvest amounted to 15,400 tonnes, 21% down on last year. Catches of anchovy totaled 560 tonnes, 18% down on last year.

In the meantime, Russian catches in the foreign EEZs, convention areas and open part of the World Ocean rose by 27% to 95,100 tonnes.
