Progress of Russian fisheries as per mid-October 2020

As of October 12, 2020 Russian fleets caught more than 4 million tons of finfish and other aquatic species. Namely, the total harvest amounted to 4,049.35 thousand tonnes, including 64.73 thousand tonnes from inland waters. As compared to the corresponding result of 2019, the catch rose by 0.2% or 8040 tonnes.

In the Far East Fishery Basin the catch increased by 2.07% to 2,952,010 tonnes. Pollock catches rose by 68,410 tonnes to 1,618,550 tonnes, while cod catches jumped by 16,620 tonnes to 143,900 tonnes. The catch of Pacific herring increased by 39,440 tonnes to 242,600 tonnes.

In the North Fishery Basin the Russian fleets harvested 408,090 tonnes, 18,860 tonnes or 4.4% down on last year. Cod catches decreased by 22,980 tonnes to 260,580 tonnes. Haddock catches increased by 4,610 tonnes to 65,480 tonnes.

In the Western Fishery Basin catches increased by 1.26% on last year to 62,830 tonnes. Sprat catches increased by 2,950 tonnes to 37,880 tonnes. Baltic herring catches decreased by 950 tonnes to 17,800 tonnes.

In the Azov-Black Sea Fishery Basin 49,400 tonnes were caught, 5.9% down on last year. Catches of anchovy increased by 1,710 tonnes to 19,420 tonnes. Sprat catches amounted to 2,120 tonnes, 1,040 tonnes down on last year.

In the Volga-Caspian Fishery Basin catches rose by 6.85% to 47,090 tonnes. Catches of sprat amounted to 6,000 tonnes, 5,250 tonnes up on last year. The total harvest also included 16,850 tonnes of big and small fish, 2,020 tonnes less than last year. Catches of freshwater species went down by 310 tonnes to 18,040 tonnes.

In the foreign zones, the convention areas and in the open part of the World Ocean the Russian fleet harvested 247,900 tonnes, 20.9% down on last year.
