Negotiations between the Rosselkhoznadzor officials and Ahmed Belavi, Commercial Counsellor of the Egypt Embassy to the Russian Federation

The negotiations were held in the format of teleconference on March 25, 2016 and were devoted to the discussion of regulated product export from Egypt to Russia, reports www.megafishnet.com with reference to Rosselkhoznadzor.

The Rosselkhoznadzor has noted with appreciation Egypt’s intention to occupy a free niche at the Russian market that has been previously occupied by Turkish products that are currently under special restrictions. Therewith, the Rosselkhoznadzor is concerned about drastic increase in export of certain Egypt plant products such as pepper, salad and tomatoes. Thus, Egypt exported 3 thousand tons of fresh tomatoes to Russia in January-February 2016 whereas only 1.2 thousand tons of fresh tomatoes were exported by Egypt to Russia throughout 2015. Currently, such products are being supplied directly from the sea port of Alexandria (Egypt) to the sea port of Novorossiysk (Russia)  will enter the territory of the Russian Federation after  their compulsory control. However, considering risk of illegal Turkish and EU plant product export to Russia the Rosselkhoznadzor will forward to the Ministry of Agriculture of Egypt an official request to confirm the authenticity of phytosanitary certificates that accompany said exported plant products.

Ahmed Belavi expressed the readiness to promote close interactions between the Rosselkhoznadzor and the National Plant Quarantine Service of Egypt to speed up provision of data on amounts of the said products exported to Russia and authenticity of the accompanying phytosanitary certificates.
