Fishery scientists met online to discuss joint surveys in Mozambique waters

On October 14, the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) and its Atlantic branch held a video conference between experts from VNIRO and the Institute of Oceanography of Mozambique (OIM) in order to agree on a preliminary program of joint research in the Mozambique zone during the Great African Expedition 2024-2026.

The conference was held within the framework of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Federal Agency for Fisheries (Russian Federation) and the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Inland Waters and Fisheries (Republic of Mozambique) dated September 27, 2023 The Russian delegation was headed by Konstantin Bandurin, Deputy Director and Head of the Atlantic Branch. The Mozambican delegation was led by OIM Director General Antonio Oguane.

During the video meeting, scientists from the two countries discussed the future joint research work. The meeting touched upon the issues of the technical organization of the upcoming work, including the areas of research, the scheme of positions of the planned grid of control trawls, etc. It was decided to continue further coordination of the technical parameters of the planned joint research program in the waters of Mozambique by correspondence.
