Fishermen studying government plans for single traceability system

The Russian government is working to bring traceability routines of separate industries into a single traceability system for animals, plants and products thereof, according to German Zverev, President VARPE (Association of Russian Fishermen, Processors and Exporters).

The government’s idea is to protect the market from illegal products by a labelling system. As of the coming year 2019 the Russian government has been empowered to approve a list of goods subject to labelling by means of identification. In October 2018 deputies introduced a draft law on making a single information system to monitor the labelled goods, the draft to be considered by the State Duma (Lower House of the Parliament).

At present the government bodies use various information systems of control. Traceability of regulated goods is achieved through the VetIS system of Rosselkhoznadzor (Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance). This information system also includes Mercury system of veterinary certification.

The government has recently highlighted urgency of the issue of unification and interaction of the state information systems working under the surveillance of the nation’s Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Federal Service on Surveillance for Consumer rights protection and human well-being (Rospotrebnadzor) and the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor).

Creation of a single information system has to be thoroughly examined as to avoid duplication of its component parts, according to VARPE’s President German Zverev.

One of VARPE’s priorities lies in tracing the situation in the sphere of veterinary certification (electronic inc.) for aquatic biological resources and their products.
