Fish ports and coldstores to gain from 3 million tonne turnover target

The Federal portal of draft regulations has published draft orders of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, which provide for the reconstruction and modernization of four major ports in the Russian Far East: Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Nevelsk, Kholmsk and Vanino, reports Megafishnet.com.

According to VARPE, the reconstruction will be carried out within the framework of the Federal project "Logistics of international trade". According to the documents, construction work is planned to be carried out in 2021-2023.

As stated in the explanatory notes to the draft orders, the modernization is "aimed at increasing the port capacity".

These ports are of serious importance for the development of the Far East's fisheries industry as about 70% of the total Russian fish catch is provided by the Far East. Modernization of the port infrastructure linking fishing areas and markets will make it more perfect, improve logistics, and increase competition in the port services market and their quality. The modernization of the Vanino-Kholmsk ferry, which provides transport links between the mainland and Sakhalin, is of key importance. Increasing the capacity of these ports makes cargo turnover more stable.

According to the strategy for the development of the Russian fisheries sector, the volume of fish and seafood turnover through Russian seaports is expected to reach at least 3 million tons per year by 2030. The main increase in the cargo turnover of fish products in the amount of about 900 thousand tons per year will fall on the fish terminals of the seaports in the Far Eastern fisheries basin, which will require the commissioning of cold stores with a capacity of at least 150 thousand tons of one - time storage.
