FAF working on $184 million upgrade for Murmansk Fish Port

The Federal Agency for Fishery (FAF) is working on implementation of a project for a massive upgrade of Murmansk Fish Port at an estimated overall cost of 14 billion rubles (ca. $184 million), reports Megafishnet.com.  

According to FAF, the project, developed by the Federal State Unitary Enterprise "National Fish Resources", will create a modern high-tech terminal for receiving and servicing ships carrying cargo by the Northern Sea Route.

The project provides, in particular, for the reconstruction of berths with an increase in the depth of the berth walls to 15 meters and an increase in cargo turnover to 1.5 million metric tons per year.

It is expected that the formation of the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky (Kamchatka) – Murmansk transport line will half the goods’ delivery time from the Far East to the central part of Russia and on the reverse voyage.

The first stage of the reconstruction involves the creation of a deep-water mooring front with a total length of 540 meters (a depth of 15 m is expected on a section 308 m long) and a new cargo area of about 38 thousand square meters. It is also planned to build refrigeration facilities for 10 thousand tons of fish at any one time.  The above listed particulars meet the standard for servicing all types of existing and prospective fishing vessels, according to FAF.

The project takes into account the need to reconstruct all engineering networks, including the erection of new transformer substations to support the increased electricity consumption. The estimated cost of implementation of the 1st stage will be about 4 billion rubles and more than 6.7 billion rubles, the hardware included.

The upgrade of the port is planned within the framework of the strategy approved by the Ministry of Agriculture for the development of sea terminals for integrated servicing of fishing fleet vessels, taking into account the coastal logistics infrastructure intended for the transportation, storage and distribution of fish products for the period up to 2030.

FAF is working on the plan in cooperation with Murmansk Region Government with the governor undertaking to lure private investors to add to FAF efforts possibly through a public-private partnership.
