Chile and Russia discussing seafood export issues and fishing opportunities
In late December Chilean and Russian officials held video talks to discuss seafood export issues and fishing opportunities, reports Megafishnet.com.
According to Russia’s vet watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor, the negotiations were conducted by the co-chairs of the Intergovernmental Russian-Chilean Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, namely by Rosselkhoznadzor Head Sergey Dankvert and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Chile for International Economic Relations Rodrigo Yanes.
A separate topic of the dialogue had to do with fishery, which, along with the export of farmed salmonids from Chile, is an important component of Russian-Chilean economic cooperation.
In this context, Chile has expressed keen interest in expanding the list of companies approved for export of fish products to Russia. In particular, the Chilean side has offered to organize their video inspection in early 2021.
On the other hand, the Russians have highlighted the interest of the nation’s fishing businesses to access Chile’s Exclusive Economic Zone in order to harvest part of the Russian horse mackerel quota and that of other Carangidae fishes in the EEZ.
