Abortive Nomination of Russia's Fishery Head for Deputy Minister of Agriculture

Nomination of Russia's Fishery head Andrei Krainy for approval by PM Medvedev to a higher position of Deputy Minister of Agriculture - Chief of Federal Fisheries Agency has been turned down as in contradiction with the government's new structure, reports http://www.megafishnet.com/ with reference to Prime.

The nomination was earlier carried out by his immediate boss Minister of Agriculture Nickolai Fyodorov after the agency's transfer from standalone status to a division under the umbrella of the Ministry of Agriculture.

Explaining the PM's decision, Vice Premier Arkady Dvorkovich with general responsibility for food industries has said that the Ministry of Agriculture must not directly manage the fishery industry but rather control how the Russian Fishery Agency does the job.

Accordingly, no extra position of a deputy minister of agriculture in addition to seven existing deputies will be created.

While the Federal Fisheries Agency will continue to perform government services for fisheries, the Ministry of Agriculture has also made a department for regulation of food market, fisheries, food and processing industries to work out state policy and draft regulatory norms for all industries producing food including the fisheries sector. The aim is to see to it that the food market is correctly balanced and Russia's food security is guaranteed also in the fish sector.
