Importation of mackerel by product forms into Russian Federation in 2006 - 2007
Russian import of mackerel in 2004 - 2006 declined steadily. The growth of import volume started in 2007 but could not completely recover to the level of 2004. The reason behind the import decline was the rapid growth of prices resulting into resistance of importers to buy expensive products. In 2007 the import volume increased, mostly due to stop of rash prices growth. This was concluded by http://www.fishnet-russia.com/ (https://www.fishnet.ru/) specialists after investigations of the official data of Russia's Federal Customs Service of importation of products of the group 03 "Fish and shellfish, mollusks and other invertebrates" HSC.
From 2004 - 2007 the average import price of mackerel on the Russian market increased more than twofold, from USD 0.8 per kilo to USD 1.74 per kilo. The most noticeable price hike of 56% was observed in 2006, for comparison in 2007 the prices increased by 5% only.
The table has been compiled on the basis of Russia's Federal Customs Service data

This happened due to decreasing of import of Norwegian mackerel by 22% (from 20,670 tonnes to 16,106 tonnes) into the Russian Federation, despite the growth of mackerel catch in Norway in 2007. The import value decreased by 19% from USD 33.6 million to USD27.2 million, at the same time the average price increased by 4%, from USD1.63 to USD1.69 per kilo.
