Icelandic Fish catches in May 2011

Total catch of Icelandic vessels in May 2011 was 43,421 tonnes compared to 73,550 tonnes in May 2010. Demersal species accounted for 38 thousand tonnes, thereof cod 17 thousand tonnes, haddock 5 thousand tonnes, redfish 4 thousand tonnes and saithe 6 thousand tonnes. The pelagic catch was 642 tonnes, only blue whiting, reports www.megafishnet.com with reference to Statistics Iceland.

At constant prices the volume of the catch decreased by 10.0% in May 2011 compared with May 2010. In the first five months of 2011 the value of catch increased by 7% compared with the same time-period in 2010.
