Icelandic fish catches in March 2011

Total catch of Icelandic vessels in March 2011 was 118,185 tonnes compared to 119,293 tonnes in March 2010, reports www.megafishnet.com with reference to Statistics Iceland.

 Demersal species accounted for nearly 45 thousand tonnes, thereof cod 24 thousand tonnes, haddock nearly 7 thousand tonnes, redfish 4 thousand tonnes and saithe 4 thousand tonnes. The pelagic catch was 69 thousand tonnes, thereof capelin nearly 68.6 thousand tonnes and blue whiting 600 tonnes.

At constant prices the volume of the catch increased by 4.8% in March 2011 compared with March 2010. In the first three months of 2011 the value of catch increased by 19.0% compared with the same time-period in 2010
