Frozen fish market situation in Murmansk as per 30 September 2008
As per 30 September 2008 the fresh frozen fish market situation has been marked by increasing prices of some fish species, market players based in Murmansk told http://www.fishnet-russia.com/ (https://www.fishnet.ru/).
In particular the situation on the market has been characterized by growing prices of the main fish species. For example, there is a seasonal growth of prices of groundfish species except for haddock, the price of which has come down due to strong supply.
The prices of pelagic species have continued rising. More specifically, the average prices of blue whiting have been increasing by RUB1.00 - 1.50 per week and tend to grow further. In this situation, polar cod (Boreogadus saida) has become a good alternative, as the price of this fish has stayed at the level of the previous week, as a result, part of the regional wholesalers have already switched to this item.
The market has continued to show great demand for herring but the shipments have not been large and the shortage of the species can be felt on the market, that is reflected in the price growth of this species.
