Ross Sea toothfish objection: certifier asked to reconsider its scoring and give further review to stakeholder comments

An Independent Adjudicator has asked third-party certifier Moody Marine Ltd to reconsider some of its scores in its assessment of the Ross Sea toothfish fishery. In addition, Moody Marine was found to have "failed to give adequate consideration" to comments submitted by stakeholders during formation of the assessment tree and the determination has been remanded so that the certifier can review the relevant Performance Indicators (PIs). The decision follows a 12 month scientific assessment of the fishery by Moody Marine, and a five month review of an objection to their finding that the fishery meets the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) standard, reports www.megafishnet.com
Mexico Baja California pole and line yellowfin and skipjack tuna fishery enters full assessment

The Mexico Baja California pole and line yellowfin (Thunnus albacares) and skipjack (Katsuwonus pelamis) tuna fishery today entered full assessment in the Marine Stewardship Council's (MSC) certification program for sustainable and well-managed fisheries. The fishery, which operates in the Mexican Exclusive Economic Zone off the west coast of Baja California, will be assessed by an independent certifier against the MSC standard for sustainable fishing.
