Four HB Grandi vessels on capelin
There has been some excellent fishing on capelin since the fleet went back to sea following a short break when a strike had been threatened. The capelin have been migrating very rapidly and the migration has now passed the Snæfellsnes peninsula. Fishing yesterday was taking place six to seven miles off Öndverdarnes, and experienced fishermen see this as the fish passing unusually deep of Snæfellsnes, reports www.megafishnet.com with reference to HB Grandi.
Four of HB Grandi's vessels are now fishing, as Víkingur AK sailed on Friday last week and yesterday landed a full trip of 1400 tonnes of capelin in Vopnafjördur. Lundey NS has landed approximately 3000 tonnes of capelin in three trips since the middle of last week and finished landing the last of these at Akranes yesterday. Faxi RE is now on its way to Vopnafjördur with 1150 tonnes in its tanks after landing 2000 tonnes in the two previous trips. Ingunn docked before the weekend at Vopnafjördur with 1500 tonnes and yesterday began landing a further 1300 tonnes at Akranes.
According to the figures from HB Grandi's pelagic division, the company's fleet still has around 20,000 tonnes to catch of its 59,000 tonne quota for this season.
