Russian pollock catch lagging further behind
As of February 7, 2021 Russia’s pollock catch totalled 216 thousand metric tons, thus showing a decline of 85.2 thousand tonnes year-on-year and accounting for 71.7% of the last year level, reports Megafishnet.com.
According to Russia’s Federal Agency for Fisheries, in the Sea of Okhotsk the total catch amounted to 185.9 thousand tonnes (70%), of which:
- 177.6 thousand MT were contributed by the Kamchatka-Kuril and West Kamchatka subzones altogether,
- 1000 tonnes (11.1%) - the East Sakhalin subzone,
- 10,000 tonnes (87.7%) - the South Kuril zone,
- 7,300 tonnes (46.8%) - the North Okhotsk subzone,
- 8,500 tonnes (87.6%) - the East Kamchatka zone,
- 6,700 tonnes (69.8%) - the Petropavlovsk–Komandorsk subzone.
As of February 7, 2021, there were 82 vessels targeting Alaska pollock in the Sea of Okhotsk.
Pacific herring
Catches of Pacific herring in the Russian Far East from the beginning of the year totalled 73.5 thousand tonnes (145.5% of the 2020 level), including 65 thousand tonnes (130%) harvested in the North Okhotsk subzone. Cod catches amounted to 19.6 thousand tonnes (83.4%), of which 5 thousand tonnes (121.9%) were harvested in the West Bering Sea zone, 4.6 thousand tonnes (80.7%) – in the East Kamchatka zone and 6.1 thousand tonnes (108.9%) - in the Sea of Okhotsk.
As of February 7, 2021, ten vessels were engaged in herring fishing in the Sea of Okhotsk and 10 vessels - in cod fishing.
