Norwegian Sea catch and quota progress to December 2020

In December 2020 the Russian fleets continued targeting herring, Northern blue whiting and black halibut in the Norwegian Sea, reports Megafishnet.com.

According to Fishnet.ru, in the open part of the Norwegian Sea up to 4 trawlers from the Northern Basin were hunting for herring. Their total harvest through the month amounted to 2,500 tonnes. On December, 7 two trawlers closed herring fishery in the Norwegian Sea.

The total herring catch through the year amounted to 66,700 tonnes or 99% of the Russian quota for herring fishery in the Norwegian EEZ and in the NEAFC area (67,400 tonnes).

In 2019 the fishery was closed 10 days later with the total result of 75,500 tonnes out of the quota of 75,800 tonnes.

Northern Blue whiting

Through December up to 3 vessels from the Northern Basin were operating on the blue whiting grounds in the Faroese fishing zone. On December, 30 one trawler from Kaliningrad joined them on the grounds. The total catch from January to December amounted to 102,300 tonnes (Russia’s blue whiting quota in the area – 82,000 tonnes).

In accordance with the Federal Agency for Fishery order No. 71 dated January 31, 2018, Russian vessels are allowed to cover in the Faroe fishing zone 25,736 tonnes of Russia’s NBW quota in the NEAFC regulatory area. In 2019 the Russian fleets harvested 99 tonnes of Northern blue whiting in the area.
