Norwegian pelagic fishing course in week 10
A week a little below the regular from the blue whiting field into the international zone with 29,500 tonnes in the record. This is divided into 23 catches from 300 - 1,950t, which gives an average of just under 1,300.
According to Norges Sildesalgslag, this illustrates the challenges the boats have had last week. Where in the first part there were limited blue whiting registrations and the boats had to have long tows to get up in the trawl bag. In the last part of the week, there has been a storm on the field and the boats have "grounded" the weather until Sunday.
When the weather has calmed down, the boats have not registered any blue whiting that provides a basis for "shooting off" the trawl. And based on the activities of Danish and Scottish boats, blue whiting has been pulled into the northwestern edge of Porcuepine in the EU zone.
Just under 100,000 tonnes of the quota of 208,306 tonnes have now been fished. For blue whiting trawls, 17 boats have completed their quota, and for pelagic trawls, a couple of boats have been completed.
Horse mackerel
Along the coasts of Rogaland and Vestland, we reported just under 120 tonnes of horse mackerel last week. This is from four different boats, and the sizes of the horse mackerel are around 450 g.

Norges Sildesalgslag
Norges Sildesalgslag (Norwegian Fishermen’s Sales Organization for Pelagic Fish) is a sales organization, owned and operated by fishermen (a ‘coop’), selling fish at a first-hand basis from fishermen to buyers - for further sales/export.
The fish being sold through Norges Sildesalgslag, is called pelagic species, and represent the types of fish migrating freely in open seas. Pelagic species include herring, mackerel, capelin, sprat etc. Pelagic species are mainly used for direct human consumption purposes, but some species, are also being used as raw material for fish oil and fish meal production, an ingredient used in fodder for fish farming.
