Nearly 3mln MT harvested by Russian fleets in January-July 2019

Through the first seven months of the year 2019 the Russian fishermen harvested 2.96 million metric tons, by 3.5% more than last year.

In the Far East Fishery Basin the total catch increased by 10.2% to 2.12 million tonnes. Pollock catches rose by 77,760 tonnes to 1.32 million tonnes, while cod catches jumped by 27,690 tonnes to 107,840 tonnes. The catch of Pacific herring increased by 3,680 tonnes to 127,610 tonnes. The production volume of Pacific salmon amounted to 253,220 tonnes, 47.17% more than last year or 34.46% more than in 2017.

In the Azov-Black Sea Fisheries Basin 41,100 tonnes were caught, 8.1% less than last year. Catches of anchovy decreased by 4,000 tonnes to 17,700 tonnes. Sprat catches amounted to 9,700 tonnes, 1,540 tonnes less than last year.

In the North Fisheries Basin the Russian fleets harvested 323,400 tonnes, 23.6% less than last year. Cod catches decreased by 25,860 tonnes to 228,600 tons. Haddock catches decreased by 21,270 tonnes to 38,890 tonnes.

In the Volga-Caspian Fisheries Basin catches declined by 22.3% to 37,230 tonnes. The figure included 16,840 tonnes of big and small fish, 3,960 tonnes more than last year. Catches of freshwater species rose by 2,200 tonnes to 14,740 tonnes.

In the Western Fisheries Basin catches rose by 8% on last year to 57,210 tonnes. Sprat catches increased by 3,900 tonnes to 34,780 tonnes. Baltic herring catches increased by 530 tonnes and exceeded 17,000 tonnes.

In the foreign zones the Russian fishing fleet harvested 221,400 tonnes, 17.4% down than last year. In the convention areas and the open part of the World Ocean, the Russian fishermen increased their catch by almost 41% to 149,100 tonnes.
